I started my first blog in 2010, which is mainly just a hobby and I never really thought of making money out of it. Then after a few months I stopped blogging. But back in 2013, I was inspired to launch my second blog, which is this blog and I planned on monetizing it to make extra money out of a hobby. I have learned a few tricks after a year of monetizing and demonetizing my blog and I just want to share them with you guys. Hope you like.
Skimlinks is a code that skims all your posts on your blog and looks for certain words or phrases which it turns into links that redirects to certain pages of partner brands. When this gets clicked and someone buys from that, you get commission. The drawback of this is that you won’t be able to control which words or posts will have links and a lot of times, the links aren’t even related to the post.
Being an affiliate blog is similar to Skimlinks in a way that you also get commission from sales and not clicks. But with being an affiliate, you get to choose what products you’re going to share and promote on your blog. A lot of online stores have this program and it’s easy to apply for. In being an affiliate, I’d advise you to choose a brand that is related to what your blog is all about.
Ads is probably the most popular, especially google ads, which can be simply applied for because it’s right there on your dashboard if you are using blogger. Note that this option isn’t going to show up on your dashboard if you are still a new blogger or if your traffic isn’t that high yet. But there are other Ads services which you can try out like Chitika, Nuffnang, or Adchoices. This Ads services will pay you by either the number of click or impressions they get from your blog. Or you can even sell your own Ads, by placing your ‘Your Ad Here’ sign on your blog. Make sure to put a link to how they can contact you if you do this.
There are also websites that hosts blog programs that you can apply to for you to get listed. Getting listed means that you are going to be in a group where brands can check out your blog and see if they want to work with you or the other way around, you can check them out and see what they offer for bloggers through that website you joined and you can apply for it. I did a post about this last year, you can check it out here.
Collaborating directly with a brand is going to require you to put your blog on the map first, which means you need to be popular and very influential to your readers. Make sure to have your contact page setup because this is going to be your bridge to your brand clients. Most blog collaborations include free items for review, sponsored posts, and giveaways.
