A Step By Step Guide To Changing Your Blogger Template To A More Professional Look

Would you agree if I told you that people respond better to someone who is good looking? I know it sounds mean, but it’s a fact. People respond more to someone who looks professional, confident, and easy to approach. That’s the same thing with your blog template. People will be more attracted and will respond more to your blog if it looks professional, easy to navigate around, and looks like you as the author is confident enough to know what you’re writing about. Which is why editing your blog template is a must. This is a step by step guide to changing your blogger template to a more professional look.

The very first thing you need to know is what you want your blog to look like and it should match the category of your blog, whether it’s about fashion, finance, business, education, and more.

Now we all know when we start blogs, blogger and even wordpress or other blogging platform have free blog templates, but they may seem a little too over rated and a lot of bloggers use them. You don’t want your blog to be looking like other blogs. You want to be unique and different. You want to stand out. So choose a blog template. You can google free blog templates and download them online. You can also check out these really neat free blogger templates from Designs Crazed, or CSS Author. These free blogger templates will have a copy right and acknowledgement to the creator of the template, which are usually found at the footer of the template. You are not allowed to remove this. If you want to remove it, you’ll need to contact the creator but you’ll probably pay them for it. If so, then I suggest to buy a template rather than downloading a free one if you’re going to be paying for it anyway. Plus when you buy your template, your blog look is going to be more unique. I’ll have to warn you, free templates can be used by anyone else, so out there, there might be someone else using the same template that you just downloaded.

Once you’ve downloaded your free blogger template, you can now upload it to your blog, but before doing that, make sure to save your old template first. Here’s how:

Here is the template of the blog I want to edit.

Log in to your blogger account and go to ‘Template’ of the blog you want to edit.

At the right upper corner, select the button ‘Backup/Restore’.

Once you’ve clicked that, a pop up will appear. Click on the button to ‘Download full template’. Doing this will allow you to save your old template just in case the new one doesn’t work out and you want to revert back to the original. When you click this, your current template will be downloaded.

Before uploading your new template make sure that the file is the raw file. These free blogger templates are usually in .zip file, so make sure to unzip them before uploading.

Once you’re done unzipping the file on your computer, go back to your browser and on the same pop up you’ll see the ‘Choose File’ button. This will allow you upload your new template. So click that and redirect to where you saved your new blogger template.

Make sure to choose the .xml file to upload.

Once you’ve chosen, just click ‘Upload’ and your new blogger template will be set.

View your blog and see if you’re happy with the changes. Here is the result of the new blogger template for the blog that I wanted to edit. Looks good, doesn’t it?

I have to warn you, some blogger templates may be more complicated and some elements on your blog will not look the way you want it to. You can edit those in the HTML of your blog. But if you’re a beginner and don’t know how to edit HTML, you can always choose a simple and clean blogger template to avoid complications.
